The Winter Forest mug’s illustration was taken from a couple of different Tove Jansson’s works. But the most peculiar source of the illustration was from Tove Jansson’s letter made for children, who had written to Santa Claus in Finland. The letter was published in English in 1963. The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs had ordered the letter from Jansson to boost Finland’s image abroad. The letter’s impact on the mug’s illustration was significant, the reindeer, clearly the biggest character on the mug, was taken from the letter.
